Timed-Write


On Friday, May 8th , you will write an essay for one of the prompts below.  In order to prepare for the timed-write, you must first write an outline, which you will work on today in class and tonight for homework.  Your essay must have the following:

1.  An introduction

    --3 to 4 sentences

    --mention author’s name and title of work (properly formatted)

    --clear and concise thesis statement

2.  Body paragraph(s)

    --5 to 7 sentences

    --clear topic sentence

    --relevant and specific supporting details

    --strong concluding/transition sentences

3.  A conclusion

    --3 to 4 sentences

    --restate the thesis statement

    --leave the reader with something to think about

 

Choose one of the following prompts:

 
A.  Was George  justified in killing Lennie?  Explain why or why not using specific and relevant details from the text to support your answer.

B.  Explain how the motif (“a repeated element having symbolic significance”) of loneliness is expressed throughout the novella.

C.  Who do you feel is the most important minor character in the novella:  Candy, Curley’s wife, Slim, or Crooks?  Explain using specific and relevant details from the text.


D.  Present a thesis about the novella and argue it using specific and relevant details from the text.
